About SV Lotus temple Sri Sundarakanda Parayanam and SriSitaRama Pattabishekam

We have commenced Sri Sundarakandam Parayanam beginning March 2006. The chanting is conducted every month by our pancharatra agama pundits. Our temple will perform SriSitaRama Pattabishekam each month after the daily chanting for 9 days the Sri Sundarakandam written by Valmiki Maharishi. It is planned to perform continuously for 108 months the Sundarakanda parayanam and SriRama Pattabishekam. The Sri Rama Pattabishekam will be held on the last Sunday of the month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. We request all devotees to participate and get the blessings of Sri Rama through the most powerful acharya Sri Hamuman. Devotees can sponsor for a month yagnam or selectivey participate for a day or for the concluding SriSitaRama Pattabishekam each month. Please contact the temple management for sponsorship details.

What is Sundarakandam and significance:

Vedavedye parepumse jathe dasaratathmaje |
Vedaha Prechetha Saadaseeth Saakshat Ramayanatmana ||

The above Srisukthi meaning is as follows: With the help of Vedam we realize paramatma, accordingly Vedam in the form of Dasaratha Rama was narrated by Valmiki Maharshi. This great vedam in the form of ‘Srimad Ramayanam chanting, SriRama puja, chanting the name of Rama for nine auspicious days is the celebration of victory by acharya and protector Sri Hanuman.

While Rama, Sita and Lakshmana where observing Vana Vasam for 14 years Ravana takes Sita by enticeing SriRama to go after a golden deer. Rama is unable to bear the separation of Sita and searches the forests with Lakshamana help. Hanuman meets SriRama and pledges to search Sita by crossing the ocean. Sundarakandam is the chapter wherein Hanuman victoriously crosses the ocean in search of Sita Devi, identifies himself as SriRama’s servant by handing the ring given by SriRama. It is in this chapter that Ravana disrespects Hanuman and orders Hanuman’s tail be set on fire. Veera Hanuman punishes Ravana and his kingdom for insulting by setting fire to the entire city of Lanka. He later returns to SriRama and narrates the welfare of Sita Devi. In Sri Ramayanam this chapter has a special importance as the acharya in the form of Hanuman and his commitment to serve Lord Sri Rama. The significance of reading Sundarakandam is it will definitely result in getting the desired wish and result.

Sri Venkateswara Lotus Temple of Virginia is conducting Sri Rama Pattabishekam each month for the next 108 months. Devotees can sponsor for a month parayanam or selectively participate for a day or for the concluding pattabishekam each month. Please contact the temple management for sponsorship details.
